Indian Laundry

In India, as in Cochin in the state of Tamil Nadu in the South, there are large laundries in town.

Nothing mechanical here, no washing machine, no thresher.

Nothing but man. Everything is done by hand.

Everything is done in the washhouse where men and women toil for hours in their cement box covered with corrugated iron, half-thigh in water under 35 ° C to scour the dirty laundry that people bring them.

Table linen, sheets, clothes, underwear, draperies everything that can be washed is found here.

The only contribution to modernity comes from industrial laundry products.

Washing and rinsing, once completed, is followed by drying in the open air and possibly ironing the laundry.
